After the problems that led to the eventual cancellation of Doomsday VI, it was a relief to be able to attend the festival again. As ever, Dinko and co worked hard to make it a successful event, despite a few googlies bowled in their direction.
Saturday started with a debut set by Vestia, the debut show for each of the band. They put on a great performance, wowing the audience, despite first time nerves. Main guy Dylan’s dad, a talented metal musician himself, was a very proud member of the audience.
Down from Scotland were Nyctopia, totally new to me and a great find. Borrowing a hooded cloak from Vestia, they came onstage providing an entertaining set and had a thing with fire going on at one point.
The next band I have now seen five times, never with the same line up. The first time was the core duo of Moord and Striga and then they added musicians. With extra parental duties Moord has recently been replaced for some live shows by Parusight. Anyway, I remain impressed by their uncompromising Black Metal.
Another local band, with a strong reputation preceeding them, are Wallowing. They were the the band of the day for me, with their noise doom. Their stage wear of black with black beekeeper hats and chest lights anonymises them, making for a different spectacle. Their music is reminiscent of a speeded up Monarch.
