Once in a while a gig comes along that is something a bit more than usual, something that’s special. This gig was one of them. It was Heights‘ first headline gig and it sold out before the gig started. There was a sense of anticipation in the air and that was rewarded by the music on the night.
Opening the night was Roxi Sound, playing their first gig. There were no nerves on show as Roxi is used to performance and the music was interesting and inspiring. Both Roxi and her drummer were bedecked in orange, making for a bright presence on stage.
Second on were Mawness. Building on the crowd pleasing that Roxi Sound had started, they also put on a superb show, again with some great music.
Finally it was time for Heights. I have known and shot Chelsie for over ten years now and I have been pleased to watch her develop her music career. Her performance at this gig, backed by her band, was one that I was really glad I caught, both as an audience member and photographer. Sporting a new hairstyle and a dark suit, she looked very Audrey Hepburnish, with that mix of charm and presence. She wasn’t allowed to leave at the end of the set until she played an encore, the crowd having gone wild for her songs.
