Moving On

Wyvern, green on white background

Green Wyvern Photography has been growing from 2010, from taking photos at small local gigs in Hastings to major metal events in London and elsewhere. There has been a lot of time and effort put into building what could have been a viable brand, not only taking pictures but also networking, getting pictures published and providing photos used by bands and musicians for publicity, albums and other reasons. This year, I have concentrated efforts on GWP rather than any of the other media projects that I want to undertake.

The aim this year was to try to get something flowing back in my direction, other than likes and shares, to give a bit of income from the work that I’d done. I launched a calendar, deliberately specific, deliberately at the cultural base that I have been most involved with in the past few years. My market research wasn’t as high powered as I had read about but I felt it was adequate to let me aim for a small number of sales. Sadly, many people who said that they were interested, weren’t when it came to opening their wallets.

This has made a decision that I was worried about much easier. The decision was how to spend my time building an income to at least partly replace teaching. With the lack of serious interest in my work as a gig photographer, I can more comfortably switch aim to other projects involving the camera. I won’t be leaving the band photography completely but will only do some festivals and maybe the odd gig in order to do it as a hobby, still posting on here, and release time for income generating projects under the 1066 Visual Media banner.
