Amongst the events that South Coast Extreme Metal promote is their winter festival, Winter Assault. The third edition went out in December 2021 at the Green Door Store in Brighton. There were line-up changes thanks to Covid but the line-up came out solid on the day.
The first act on was a one person doom drone artist, Allsiah. There is always a possibility that this sort of act can turn into a glorified guitar karaoke but, as seems to be the case, along with Black Metal, it seems to work well in a way that other genres of music can’t seem to emulate.
Next on were a fairly new group, Adder. They have risen from the ashes of Absinthropy, with vocalist DF and bassist MB carrying on the flame, albeit without the signature cutlery that DF carried onstage in the older group.
The next group Deheubarth, had partly travelled from North Wales, and a bit closer in the case of the drummer, Pete. Pete had fairly recently parted company with Fen and was quite philosophical about it. Their live set did not disappoint.
