This was the first time that I had been to the Drax site. It’s overshadowed by the cooling towers from the power station. The staff in the social club are friendly and helpful and the venue itself is ideal for the festival. The stage front was bedecked with flags of the countries suppling musicians for the weekend, plus the Ukrainian flag to show solidarity.
First band on were Bring to Bear, led by a piano accordion player. They played a competent set.
Next on were Scars of Sense who were entertaining and had the first of several female fiddlers playing over the weekend.
Mordrake made things a lot heavier with a fine set of metal.
Argesk added their Black Metal to the mix.
Denali doomed things down.
Solfyr completely changed the feel of the day with their beautiful singing.
Headliners Countless Skies, with Arianna on cello, added an epic progressive set to finish of the day’s proceedings.
