Colin’s 60th – Morris

Over the past year and a bit I have got to know some of the Morris sides/teams and the people in them. The Squire from Black Swan Border Morris (the team that reignited my interest in Morris when they caught my eye at Jack in the Green last year), Colin, celebrated his 60th with a weekend at the RAFA Portcullis club at RAF Kenley. There was a mix of people there – his family, the bike club he belongs to and bikers from Guernsey and most of Black Swan and other Morris people.

Saturday afternoon had a couple of sessions of Morris dancing from the sides that were there, starting with Black Swan.

Some members of Wolfshead and Vixen Morris were there and adapted their dances for their number.

All of G&G were there (both of them).

As were Huginn and Muninn Morris who I’d first caught dancing at a metal gig. As part of their two person Border Morris they threw metal sticks at each other and danced with large balloons on their heads.

In between two sessions a Sea Shanty group Sandilands Shantymen entertained us.

To finish off each of the sessions the sides did a couple of combined dances. At the end, Colin invited other guests up to dance. Sadly there are no pictures here for that as I couldn’t dance and take pictures at the same time. As ever, there were some excellent musicians providing the music for the dancing.
