Taken to New Heights

After quite a few weeks of not going to gigs I had two that were coming up in Brighton that I wanted to go to and I also took the decision to shoot both of them.

The first of these was an act that I have been happy to shoot several times before, including last year when I took some of my best pictures. This is Heights, the electropop project of my singer-songwriter friend Chelsie. They had played the opening of the TedX event at The Dome the previous Friday.

First up though was an act that was totally new to me, Clara Pople. They have a strong voice, backed by some clever looping, winning over many new fans, myself included. Their set included a cover of Stevie Wonder’s Jammin’, a brave choice as it’s one of the few tracks that Stevie Wonder did strongly themselves.

Chelsie finished off the evening with a strong set, including new tracks, never played live before. Their band accompanied her on many of the songs with either a backing track or Chelsie playing piano.

It was a good evening and it had been put on by the Folklore Rooms, a reasonably new Brighton promoter who puts on many good quality gigs.
