Saturday saw a return to the same venues in Camden as last year – the Electric Ballroom and The Underworld – and a third – the Black Heart. This year I decided not to rush back and forth between the venues and did not catch any band performances in the Black Heart. All the bands that I saw were good, playing well and providing good performances.
There were three bands scheduled to play The Underworld before things kicked off at the Electric Ballroom. First on were UK Black Metallers The Sun’s Journey Through the Night. Their set was a strong one to open the day.
Second band were Italians Infernal Angels, who also put on a good show.
Following them were Nubivagant, also from Italy. They are a one-person BM project, with a live drummer added. Again, it was a good set, although the crowd had started to thin as people headed to the Electric Ballroom.
First on at the Electric Ballroom were Norwegians Nordjevel, corpse-painted up.
Second band on were another one-person project, with help on keys and guitar. Aussies Midnight Odyssey were one of the bands that made this festival a draw for me and they did not disappoint.
Urgehal, another Norwegian band were on next, providing another blasting set. I did get a bit confused when I turned round and saw that the vocalist had lost his flowing locks but then realised that they had two vocalists, which worked well.
Swedes Naglfar were on next. There’s was another solid set.
Last on for the day were Swiss band Darkspace, another of the bands that got me excited when they were announced for the festival. Their set was powerful, if all on one level.
